Our club takes part in a wide variety of amateur radio activities throughout the year, blending emergency-preparedness practice, on-air operating, and community outreach. Sign-up on our mailing list on our Home page to stay informed to all our activities.

Operating Events

• Winter Field Day (Annual – 4th full weekend of January): We set up and operate under winter conditions, testing our gear and skills for emergency communications when the weather is at its worst.
• Summer Field Day (Annual – 4th full weekend of June): Our largest operating event of the year. We set up portable stations, often on emergency power, and make contacts with other stations across the country. This also doubles as our Club picnic.
• Parks on the Air (POTA) activations: Members take portable stations into state and national parks to make contacts with hunters around the world, combining radio with the outdoors.
• Fox Hunts: These hidden-transmitter hunts have members track down a concealed signal using direction-finding techniques. They’re a fun way to build practical skills and friendly competition. This activity is not on a fixed schedule so if this sounds interesting to you, drop us a line to see when our next Fox Hunt is going to be.
• Hamfests: Swap meets for radio enthusiasts, with gear to buy, sell and trade, license exams, forums, and a chance to meet local hams. There are many Hamfests throughout the year from many clubs around South-west Michigan. There are regional hamfests like the one known as the “Dayton Hamvention” located at the Greene County Fairgrounds and Exposition Center. Operators and families travel a long distance to attend this yearly event.

Special Events

Our club periodically operates Special Event stations, giving hams the chance to make contact with a station commemorating a specific occasion or activity. If you've contacted one of our Special Event stations, there may be a certificate waiting for you.
